A package can match your operating system and still require the right processor build. The labels below describe what the publisher put in the filename; they are not guessed from your browser.
Processor labels
- x64
- For most 64-bit Intel and AMD Windows or Linux computers.
- arm64
- For ARM-based computers, including Windows on ARM and ARM Linux devices.
- universal
- A macOS build containing both Apple silicon and Intel code.
- x86
- A 32-bit Intel build, mainly relevant to older systems.
- unknown
- The publisher’s filename did not identify a processor.
Package formats
- EXE / MSI
- Windows installer or executable package.
- ZIP / 7Z
- Compressed archive; often portable, but check the release notes.
- DMG / PKG
- macOS disk image or installer package.
- AppImage
- Standalone Linux application; make the file executable before launch.
- Flatpak
- Linux package intended for a Flatpak-enabled system.
- DEB / RPM
- Distribution package for Debian-family or RPM-family Linux systems.
- TAR archives
- Compressed files that must be unpacked; installation steps vary.
