Source review:

Good to know

Snapmaker Orca is Snapmaker’s open-source OrcaSlicer fork, customized with Snapmaker printer profiles, device binding, remote monitoring and control.

Sources reviewed:

Where it fits

Its strongest fit is the Snapmaker U1 workflow: printer binding, filament mapping, multicolor preparation, slicing and remote job control in one place.

Install and update note

Use the release package for your platform. If a Linux AppImage will not run, the official README suggests making it executable with chmod. For the Snapmaker U1, the 2.4.0 notes recommend firmware V2.0.0 or later before upgrading; they do not state it as a prerequisite.

Common questions

How do cloud and LAN binding differ?

Cloud mode can bind by PIN or nearby-device search. LAN mode can bind by IP address or local discovery and is intended for isolated or offline networks.

Check the source ↗
What are the documented system requirements?

The U1 guide lists Windows 10+, macOS 12+, Ubuntu 20.02+ or Fedora 36+, OpenGL 2.0, at least 4 GB RAM and 2 GB free disk space; 8 GB RAM is recommended.

Check the source ↗
What files are used in the print workflow?

Projects can carry settings in 3MF; after slicing, Snapmaker Orca generates G-code and can upload and start the job from the print dialog.

Check the source ↗
For Snapmaker U1, is firmware V2.0.0 required for Orca 2.4.0?

The 2.4.0 notes recommend V2.0.0 or later before upgrading a Snapmaker U1. The source presents this as a recommendation, not a stated installation requirement.

A quick check before installing
0/3

A project file is not an installer

A .3mf file holds model or project data. Opening it does not install the slicer. After opening a project, check the printer, nozzle and material settings.

Check the official requirements

Files are hosted by the developers. Before installing, check their system requirements and release notes. A file labelled for your platform does not establish the minimum OS version.
