Bambu Studio V2.8.1 introduces Decompose Color, E3D nozzle support, and device-page filament management, along with a range of improvements and bug fixes. You can download the Flathub version for Linux from Bambu Studio on Flathub ↗ The Flathub version is maintained by @hadess ↗ ; thanks to him for his outstanding work.
Note: 3MF files saved in the Beta version are temporarily not supported for upload to MakerWorld. If you need to upload, please use the official release version.
Features
Color Prediction & Decompose Color
Updated the color prediction algorithm for the CMYW and RYBW combinations of Bambu PLA Basic, delivering more accurate layered-color results with these two combinations. Also introduced Decompose Color, which automatically breaks a target color down into the optimal filament combination.
- Decompose colors from the filament list, or into a specific color combination (currently only the CMYW and RYBW combinations of Bambu PLA Basic are supported).
image image
- Automatic Decompose Color for textured models: after importing a colored model, the software automatically matches your filament library to generate a decomposition scheme, with no manual color setup required.
image
Device-Page Filament Management
- Bind filaments from the Filament Manager to editable slots.
image
- View each filament's presence (mount) status and the device it's currently on.
image
- When loading a Bambu Filament that hasn't been added yet, quickly create a new spool or bind it to an existing filament right from the device page.
image
E3D Hotend Integration
- Added a new "E3D High Flow" nozzle type, supported on H2D, H2S, H2C (left head only), X2D, and P2S.
- Shown in the sidebar only for 0.4 / 0.6 mm nozzle diameters.
image
Remaining Filament Reminder
Added remaining-filament reminder support for the H2D.
⚠️ Minimum supported firmware version: 01.03.50.00 (H2D)
- Prompts remaining filament status during print-related workflows.
- Makes it easier to prepare a filament change in advance, reducing the risk of print interruptions.
image
Improvements
Preferences Page Redesign
- Restructured the layout and presentation of the Preferences page.
- Makes it easier and faster to find and adjust commonly used options.
image
Assembly Guide Improvements
- Fixed an issue where splitting or merging objects in the Prepare view affected the tree structure in the Assembly view.
- Added support for adding parts to assembly steps from either the list or the canvas.
- Added "face-to-face" and "point-to-point" alignment, with Gizmo-based assembly.
- Improved large-text rendering for better label readability.
Filament Track Switch
- H2D now supports the Filament Track Switch.
⚠️ Minimum supported firmware version: 01.03.50.00 (H2D)
Other Improvements
- Mixing ratios for layered colors can now be entered manually, improving precision for two or three-color blends.
- Added a Wiki help link to the A2L Quick Mode interface.
- Improved flush time estimation for H2D: heating and cooling are now calculated separately, making multi-color flush duration more accurate.
- Generating a PA calibration tower no longer overrides the wall speed defined in the preset.
- Updated Ukrainian translation. Thanks to @Tarasovych for the contribution.
- Restored the --datadir argument, allowing a custom configuration directory (network paths supported). Thanks to @mpaperno for the contribution.
- Builds can now optionally use the system-provided GMP / MPFR libraries. Thanks to @hadess for the contribution.
- When the system temp directory is low on space, slicing temporary files are now stored in the data directory instead, reducing export failures for large models (especially on Linux systems with a small /tmp). Thanks to @BenJule for the contribution.
- When a project has unsaved changes, an "*" is now prepended to the window title and automatically removed after saving (all platforms). Thanks to @BenJule for the contribution.
- Added portable operation: when a local configuration folder is detected, it takes priority, making it easier to run multiple versions side by side. Thanks to @mpaperno for the contribution.
